Preparing for the paradeby *Tychoaussie

The Christmas parade for our city is traditionally the first Saturday in December, and it's traditionally led by our own Elvis Presley. Well, that just makes total sense that the next character in line for the parade, immediately behind the official banner that kicks off the Williamston light parade would be some guy in a dog costume, accompanied by a dozen well-trained therapy dogs! So Tycho, equipped with blinking lights on his hat, bravely hopped , skipped, and danced the entire length of the city center to the delight & cheering of the thousands of kids & people that lined the street. 3 1/2 hours-worth! --and a plaque from the city that reads "Best first-time entry", along with an invitation to be there for next year's parade!

How fun! But how did you stay hydrated for so long?

My son & daughter stick with me - and my 12-year old son carries a 2 liter camelback with him. He then prompts me every ten minutes and asks if I would like a drink of water. People seem fascinated to watch me take a pause, pop the straw in Tycho's mouth and drink from it. If you watch the youtube video by Lauren Ragan, you will see a scene where I am using the camelback. It works pretty good, though I need to switch to something with electrolytes if going much longer than 1 1/2 hours. 3 1/2 did leave me needing to recover for most of Sunday. It was definitely too long to interact & hop & dance with no break.
